These kind of cool special effects have previously been almost impossible to do on your everyday PC. 3D artists will know that rendering special effects such as a cloud of smoke or a flickering flame in your scene can take a long time. But with particleIllusion, you can add multiple effects in seconds and animate them in real time!

It would be simplifying things far too much to say that particleIllusion is a particle effects system. It wouldn't be enough to say that it is real time special effects animation software. In fact, particleIllusion is so powerful, and can be used for so many things in so many ways that it really is difficult to pigeon-hole into any one category. Because particleIllusion doesn't actually work in 3D, it doesn't need to deal with the huge rendering tasks other 3D programs have to cope with.

You can add emitters on multiple layers, and define deflectors and blockers to make your effects integrate and react in a 3D environment (more about those later!)... Water can realistically pour over and bounce off surfaces or pour from a bottle; fireworks can appear behind buildings.

You can import existing animations and add your special effects, preserving all the quality (and even sound!) in the original footage. But you could just as easily import a static image and add animated effects!
